There is No Success without Adversity

Welcome to the “TAR Expo Issue”!

The road to success is not always an easy one. Nor is the road back, when your business world has been turned upside down.

I have found in life and business that nothing is as easy as you think and that things don’t happen as quickly as you hope. Wouldn’t you agree?

My 100+ interviews with Houston’s top real estate producers have taught me that those who succeed expect to succeed but it does not necessarily come easily. Many have succeeded despite the odds against them but success can be achieved by hard work, determination, and a “can do” attitude.

This month’s cover honoree, Dory Gordon of Century 21 Premier Gold Properties, has worked very hard to accomplish her goals and dreams. When Dory was nine years old, her mother enrolled her in extra- curricular activities that included baton twirling classes. Always desiring to do her best to please her mother and make her proud, Dory was accepted to “Edee’s Romanettes,” a twirling/drill team. Hard working Dory continued improving her twirling skills and became part of the Kathryn Fain organization that had the most influence on her. Kathryn would push Dory way beyond the limits that she ever imagined. Dory would say to her, “I can’t do it.” Kathryn would then reply, “Can’t does not exist!”

When Dory started competing in USTA, NBTA, and won AAU National Junior Miss, she thought, “if you work really hard, you can win!” Being competitive, upbeat, and a positive thinker, and having a strong work ethic is what Dory learned from Kathryn and this continues to be the foundation for the successful person Ms. Gordon is today. There is nothing that Ms. Gordon can’t accomplish because once you get to know her, you will realize that “Dory is the lady with the can do attitude!” I know that you are going to enjoy her story!

Dory’s cover photo was taken at the Sabine Bridge which has been the location of several of our cover shots. Many thanks to Zadok Jewelers in the Galleria for the loan of the jewelry Dory was wearing for her shoot. Dror & Helene Zadok are fans and friends of Dory’s. I don’t think that most guys understand just how much a woman’s shoes and jewelry (especially expensive, beautiful jewelry) “empower” the woman!

In Barbara’s “Realtor Recommendations” column, she has chosen our favorite place for a quick get away, Galveston. When In Galveston, Barbara and I consider “Rudy & Paco’s” to be one or our very favorite special occasion restaurants...anywhere! Hurricane Ike totally devastated Galveston and especially those businesses downtown and on the Strand. For our friend, Francisco AKA Paco (who owns the restaurant), the road to recover his wonderful restaurant from the damage of the hurricane was not easy. Francisco was determined to bring it back and that he has done and it’s better than ever before! Please make sure that when you are in Galveston for the TAR Convention and Expo or anytime, you tell Francisco that we said “hello and we will see him soon!”

Also, make sure to stay at the Hotel Galvez, the “Queen of the Gulf”. It truly is the embodiment of old world charm combined with new world amenities. If you have a chance, take a step back in time and take in an event at The Grand 1894 Opera House. Still recovering from Hurricane Ike, they will gratefully accept your support if you have an interest in making a donation. Please mail any checks to: The Grand 1894 Opera House, 2020 Post Office St., Galveston Island, Texas 77550.

Thanks also go out to Allied Home Warranty for once again agreeing to distribute the September issue of Premier Agent Magazine at this year’s Expo in Galveston on September 13th. Please stop by their booth and say “Hi” to P.A.M. Publisher’s Advisory Board member, Candy Lynn George. Please tell her how much you enjoy the magazine and how much you would like to be on the cover. If you ask, Candy Lynn might even nominate you for the cover honor.

It’s time to let you get started on this month’s very, very special issue!

Good Reading, Good Sales, and Success to You Always,
